Team Objectives

Our primary on-ice objective for the year is to significantly improve the basic skills of skating, puck handling, passing and shooting.  On-ice secondary goals include team tactics, positional play and team strategies.  Indeed, this is the "A" level, so many of the kids need the development to prepare for competitive hockey next year at Atom but the overall primary goal is to HAVE FUN.  Let's remember that these are 8 year olds.

Team Goals:

  • 80% effort in technical skills and individual tactics
  • enjoyment of both practices and games
  • development of one on one skills
  • respect for coaches, team-mates and officials
  • development of a work ethic
  • develop confidence (an important life skill)
  • understand team concepts and "team work"
  • can handle the puck and perform wrist shot at high speed
  • can execute a pass on the move
  • understands and can execute their role is small groups (2:1, 3:2)
  • has basic understanding of role in defensive coverage, breakouts and fore checking (other elements are not necessarily progress for Novice just yet)
